…and then this happened!

Okay so let me tell you what happened the other day while going on a nail shop run. Me and my ace, boon, coon, Naomi. I made it like a girls thing. I fixed her up some snacks and I painted her toe nails before the day before. I decided to get my nails done that Saturday morning as soon as the shop opened. The nail shop I go to is inside f the mall. They open and close the same hours as the mall. I got there right at 10 o’clock. They turned the lights on and opened the gate right at 10:02. I was the third person in line and the two women in front of me were getting pedicures, so it was perfect. My nail tech, Kim, had just arrived and told me to sit at her table. Kin is so sweet. And she does the heck out of my nails!! That lady knows what she’s doing for sure. After the first time she did my nails I knew I wanted her to be the only person to do my nails until I left Ohio. Naomi was chilling, eating and looking around at everything going on around her as she set in her stroller. The more customers that came in the more Naomi became the center of attention. Naomi kept saying, “Haaaaaay!” to every new person that walked in the shop. Everyone laughed at her laugh. So, now everyone is just laughing. Super cute. The nail shop is pretty big. You have the entrance where there is probably about thirteen manicure tables. Then further back it’s the entry way to the pedicure area. I promise you the whole shop was in laughter. It may have been at least twelve customers at the time. And maybe like five workers. I just feel like they stay busy. I was just really happy I had got there early. It was not even 10:30 yet and the shop was already starting to get busy. People signed their names in and left to hit up a few stores while they wait the already hour wait. We got there juuuuust in time!

It was cool how Naomi was entertaining and was being entertained. That’s what I needed. Naomi is pretty chill and she goes with the flow most of the time. I didn’t know if it was one of those days or not. I didn’t know how antsy she would get. But overall I knew that I could take her with me to get my nails done. Kim always did my nails pretty fast too, so, that was good!

Naomi was so well behaved! I was sooooo proud of her! She did her little thing. She ate her pizza, wrote in her book, chit chatted with a few folks, and just enjoyed the morning out. We were in there  not even a full hour. It was fun though, we enjoyed it!

I was so glad I got up early and got that part out of the way so I could relax the rest of the day. It was gloomy and cloudy out, the perfect chill day. I’m all done with my nails, which I happened to love, as usual. I pay and I head on out the nail shop to take a brief walk past Sears and Planet Fitness to get to the exit that leads to my car. I go around the corner and it’s pouring down raining. AND WHEN I SAID POURING, I MEAN POURING!!!!!! Woo chi! Let me tell you! I looked at Naomi, Naomi turned around and looked at me (even she was like….what.) I decided to wait for a few minutes to see if it was going to let up. I could tell that it wasn’t going to. I’m like dog on I didn’t part far. But from the looks of it, it didn’t look like it would let up anytime soon. Then I hear this girl yelling and fussing and I turn to see what is going on right. I’m like, “What in the world.” For one, I didn’t know who she was talking to. She’s just fussing and walking in the rain walking towards the mall entry. So, I’m keeping a close eye on that while I plan to make a run for it. I put my phone in my book bag. I take Naomi’s cup from her and put it in her book bag prepared to make a run for it. I’m still getting my stuff together while this lady starts screaming and hollering about this and that and this and that. I don’t know exactly what she was saying, but she dropped a few F bombs in there and you could see that someone had really made her MAD! I started to make my move. I don’t play that. Next thing I see this man walking up behind her and he’s fussing too. So they just yelling at the top of their lungs and they don’t care who is around. They weren’t paying no one any mind as they argue in the parking lot in the pouring down rain. I’m like “ooooooh nooo”! I made a quick B line with my baby stroller and started running towards my car. I thought I was going to wait and see if the pour would stop. It wasn’t about to happen today. If you were to ask me what happened, I would simply tell you, “Ask the back of me.” I do not stick around and try and be nosey to see what’s going on! ESPECIALLY WITH MY BABY! I wasn’t about to be walking pass them when they were screaming at the top of their lungs at each other. People are crazy and senseless. I did not hesitate to get out of their way. As much as I like a good story I minds my business. When I tell you we were out of there! We were out of there!! It was raining so hard! Naomi was loving it. It was funny. She had her hands up in the air, looking up at the sky. I was running fast, looking around to make sure a car wasn’t backing p while I was making a run for it. Naomi screamed and laughed the whole time. I made it to the car and strapped Naomi in. She was pretty wet. I strapped her in and gave her, her wet items from her stroller and closed the back door. I knew I couldn’t put the stroller in the back seat because Rob had all his military stuff back there and I didn’t want the wet stroller to get his stuff wet. I decided to put it in the front seat. I’ve done it before, so I knew it would fit.  I think the pour down of the rain and me trying to get out of it made the process a little more difficult then I remembered it being at first. Chi! When I tell you that I was soaking wet. It was no need to try and rush now. The damage was done.

So I thought….

Finally, I got in the car. It was pretty humid out so I had to turn the air on. But I put it on really low because we were so wet I didn’t want us to get sick. We pull out of the parking lot and I head towards the green light. I keep driving and make a right. I’m a little ways up the street and I notice that my left hand, pointer finger nail was broke midway. Like half my nail. I was like, “Are you serious.” Anyone that knows me, KNOWS!!! I am something about my nails. I always have been. So I was frustrated but then I was like, “I’m not turning back, not in this mess. Not after that.” So I just continued to head on home. I  I was, “Like whatever, I’ll go back tomorrow, no big deal.” So, just like that, I talked myself into just waiting until Sunday. We got home, had lunch, and watched Moana. Naomi fell asleep around twoish, which happens to be her nap time, so I knew it was coming. While Naomi napped I did my own little thing, reading, writing, studying, ya know. But guess what? I could not focus on a high level on anything I was trying to do because my nail was all jacked up. I kept talking myself out of going back.  I just couldn’t deal with the fact that I had broken a nail the same exact day I got them done, leaving out the nail shop.

It wasn’t raining anymore, so I was like what the heck. Naomi later woke up from her nap and I was like come on girl. I have to get this nail fixed. If I was about to get a fill-in in a few days, then cool. But come on now, I literally just got a fresh fill-in and this is what happens?! So I went back to my lady and she hooked me right up. Free of charge. I always tip her nicely. So I’m not surprised she looked out. She got me back right. I feel so much better now.

*Laughing hard right now at myself.*

I know I sound silly. But hey, we like what we like. And I like my nails. That’s just one thing about, me. I had told a few of my girls what had happened with my nail after leaving out the nail shop. I told them I wasn’t tripping and would just wait until Sunday. Once I told them that I had went back to the nail shop to get my nail fixed, it was like they already knew I would. “Girl I knew you would get that nail fixed.” I don’t know why I tried to fool myself into thinking I would wait. I’m proud of me though. In something that small I didn’t make a big deal out of it. I didn’t let it ruin my day. At one point in my life that would have been something that would have set the tone of my day. I didn’t curse and fuss and all that extra stuff.

I just wanted to share that little story. I thought it was kind of funny. I enjoyed seeing Naomi laugh at the whole ordeal with the rain. The second go round at the nail shop was just as good as the first. We were only there for about fifteen minutes. She met a few other friends and laughed some more. Once we got home we took one of our many mile walks together as she watched all the dogs being walked by their owners. The geese (“Biiiird.) by the ponds. She enjoyed that. I gave her five gummy bears! She was really happy about that! It’s very rare when I let Naomi eat candy. So, I’m assuming she’s going to be good when we go back to the nail shop in hopes of getting some more gummy bears. We shall see.
